PD 10-10 with fuel leak - Rt. 1 SB a/o Black Diamond Rd.
Wednesday, August 15, 2007
On Aug. 15th @ 1559 Sta. 44 units were dispatched for a washdown of diesel fuel as the result of a PD 10-10. Engine 44-4 responded and found that a box truck had blown out a tire, causing it to lose control and strike the side of a 10 wheel dump truck. When the two collided the saddle tank on the drivers side of the truck was punctured spilling diesel fuel onto the roadway. Crews found the tank to be almost empty, and placed absorbent down on the spilled fuel. The driver of the truck had plugged the hole with some materials and the leak was stopped, but additional absorbent and a container were placed underneath incase any more fuel leaked out. Units were assisted by DSP, and DNREC was contacted. OIC was Firefighter Jimmy Blanchfield.
