Extrication Competition - Kent Island, MD

Today, Engine 44-4 with a crew of 5 traveled to Kent Island, MD to take part in their 2nd Annual Extrication Competition. The crew consisted of Capt. Brian Jarrell, Lt. Dwayne Newnam, FF Tyler Torres, FF Jonathan Rutledge, and FF Nick Reed. The timed competition consisted of removing all 4 doors, removing the roof, and rolling the dash. Penalties were assesed for safety violations and incomplete procedures. An afternoon thunderstorm delayed the start by over an hour and the Citizens' Hose Company team wound up being the last to go just as the sun was setting. The other companies involved were St. Michaels, MD (Talbot County), Crumpton, MD (Queen Anne's County), Pikesville, MD (Baltimore County), Jarrettsville, MD (Harford County), Bel Air, MD (Harford County), Grasonville, MD (Queen Anne's County), Riviera Beach, MD (Anne Arundel County), and St. Leonard, MD (Calvert County). After a long afternoon in the sun, 1st place went to Bel Air, MD with Jarrettsville, MD as the runner-up. We'd like to congratulate the winners and thank Kent Island Fire Department for their hospitality and look foward to the event again next year.
